Maybe More Than Just a Show...

This week I have been thinking a lot about what shows and movies I watch regularly and how they make me feel. For the most part I would say that I am a happy and upbeat person so I tend to try to watch things that keep me happy and laughing. One show that I have gotten "sucked" into watching is part of the Bachelor franchise, Bachelor in Paradise. This is a little different than the other comedic shows that I watch because although watching other people try to date can sometimes be comical, I mostly feel sad or have a loss of confidence after watching the show.
I have struggled with self confidence issues my whole life and it is a problem that this past year I have really tried to face head on. Taking this into account, the hard part of watching shows like Bachelor in Paradise is that I find myself comparing who I am and what I look like to contestants on the show. After some self reflection I am realizing how unhealthy that is and have decided to stop watching the show.
Even though I really love the social aspect of the show (all my friends watch it), I know that cutting it out is going to be better for me! I am so glad that I have had this time to think about and analyze what I am watching and how it affects who I am.

  1. thank you for sharing! I used to watch the Bachelorette, but also felt similar feeling after I would finish watching an episode. It is so crazy to realize how much the media can influence how we view ourselves. It can be hard to cut something out of your life when all of your friends are doing it, but YOU GOT THIS!

    1. Wow I can totally relate to the whole Bachelor, Bachelorette thing. I have never really gotten into Paradise, but i definitely have with the the other 2. I would say social pressures are super real at watching those shows, and it really is entertaining! Way to go at cutting it out! My husband and I decided we were not going to continue watching the Bachelor/Bachelorette because it did not have the most positive influence on us. Like Liza Jane said, YOU GOT THIS!

  2. love this! I haven't watched the Bachelor very much but I can relate to the experiences of continuing to use media that leaves you feeling less then happy. Great choice to stop!

  3. It's so weird because whenever I watch it, all I want is more and I can't seem to stop. But if I go for even a week without it, I don't have any interest at all anymore. Like, my friends beg me to catch up or start again, but it seems like a chore rather than entertainment. You got this, girl! There are so many better things for all of us to do haha
